You lined up....what next now!!
After over 15 years without going to LC1 polls, the new EC chairman took on his first challenge of organising the long awaited elections that had seen them been suspended a multiple times due to controversial voting style of lining up behind the candidate not the private ballot style.
Finally the day came and went...! We lined up and now what do they have for us
With an annual "salary" payment of just shs.120,000, the LC1 may be one of the great earners with many charges levied to collect their signature such as on documents like village recommendations, official documents to acquire passports, Senior six PuJab documents and many more others....
All that aside, we have to look to the duties of a local council chairman right away from chairing the LC committee that seem to be a fundamental focal point towards the development of the village.
With different community needs like sourcing for safe water, providing security to the members, mobilising the society in case of government projects , community works and maintain/settling disputes between the community members.... and so on
The question is ....can they really manage!
The Secretary General of NRM has come out to tell us how nrm is still strong after scooping many of the village chairman positions but unlike the usual politicking behind political parties seem not to be a major point when selecting who to be your chairperson.
Potential, ability and approachability take center stage unlike the MPs whose roles are to table issues in the house the chairman is on ground making all ends meet interacting with us on a daily basis.
Having a good chairman automatically means living in peace and harmony on top of quick service delivery and sharing on the national cake
