2016 – In January, Museveni announces he does not consider presidential candidate Mbabazi an opponent since the former prime minister is still a member of the ruling NRM, instead describing his former ally as a brother who deserted him in the middle of a forest.

2016 February- Social Media and Mobile money were suspended prior to the election day amid reports that they would influence elections
 - President Museveni wins re-election against veteran candidate Kizza Besigye, amid opposition, Commonwealth, US and European Union concern about fairness and transparency.

2016-April- Makerere university lecturer Dr .Stella Nyanzi shocked the nation after she goes nude in protest against being locked out of her office

2016 May - US delegation walks out of President Museveni's inauguration in protest at his disparaging comments about the International Criminal Court.

2016 July - Opposition leader Besigye is bailed after being held on treason charges for allegedly declaring himself president after elections..

2016 September, Fika Salama operation launched to curb down road accidents on Masaka Mbarara road

2016 October - Bank of Uganda takes over Crane Bank


2016 November - Makerere university closed indefinitely following strike by teaching staff and students
-Government attacks Omusingas Palace ,burns it down over suspicions that he is harboring a rebel group and plans to create a new country The YIIRA Republic .
Over 60 lives were lost.
-Cox media Ug goes online for the first time.


2016 December - The first Lord's Resistance Army commander to appear before the International Criminal Court at The Hague goes on trial. Dominic Ongwen faces 70 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity
-Former Mp and DP Secretary General Mathias Nsubuga Dies.

2017 January - Makerere University reopens after 2 months of closure.

  •  Glo Caf awards take place. Uganda Cranes voted National Team of year While Denis Oyango awarded with The Best African Player Based in Africa
