In a highly anticipated final game of the tournament between the hosts Uganda and the defending champions South Africa, the mammoth crowd and gathering that included the Prime Minister of Uganda and the vice chancellor of Makerere among others was no surprise at all.
In a twist of events, Uganda emerged champions 🏀on home soil after claiming a 44-43 victory against south Africa.
Both teams having played to a draw in the build up to the final meant that they were all made it to the finals unbeaten.
In a spectacle final the young she cranes showed pace 🔥in the last quarter to secure a point lead over the southAfricans having trailed behind in the other two quarters.
This 5 day event was the third installation of the FISU university netball championship and saw 8 teams from 8 different countries participate.
It was hosted in the Mak Arena at Africa's prestigious university Makerere in the Ugandan capital Kampala.
Despite having won the 2016 Miami championships ,the defending champions were denied a chance to defend the trophy.
The team later on their twitter page congratulated the VarsityUg team for their success and appreciated Urban Tv, a local TV broadcaster for their comprehesive coverage of the event
Uganda becomes the third country to host the FISU netball championships with the next event scheduled for 2020.
